Session View for Google Chrome
Privacy Policy
Effective October 6, 2026
In short: Session View stores your sessions, tabs, previews and usage statistics only in the extension's local storage in your Chrome. The extension sends nothing to the developer or anyone else. It has no account, no cloud, no ads and no analytics.
Who is behind the extension
Session View is developed by Martin Haas. For privacy questions, contact the developer by email at hama4tux@gmail.com or via GitHub.
What data the extension handles
To save and restore sessions, the extension works with the following data:
- Sessions and tabs: session names, tab URLs and titles, favicon URLs, custom tab names, which window a session belongs to and whether a session is muted.
- Tab previews: small screenshots of the visible part of a page, captured when you save a window or while you work in a linked window.
- Usage statistics: how much time you spent on individual websites and pages (page URL and title), in windows and sessions, time by hour, and counts of tab switches and of opened and closed tabs. Only the active tab in the focused window is measured while you are not idle; Incognito windows are never tracked. Statistics can be turned off in settings.
- Settings: language, theme, layout, whether automatic sync and statistics are on, sound muting and similar options.
Where the data is stored
All of this data is stored only in the extension's local storage in Chrome on your device. The extension does not send it anywhere: not to the developer and not to third parties. It has no account, no built-in cloud sync, no analytics and no ads, and it does not load any code from a remote server.
When the extension uses the network
- When a tab's favicon is shown, Chrome may load the image from the corresponding website, just as during normal browsing.
- When you restore a session or open a tab, Chrome loads those pages as if you had opened them yourself.
- The "Buy me a coffee" link opens the Buy Me a Coffee website in a new tab. That service's privacy policy applies there; the extension passes no data to it.
The extension itself does not send any data about you or your browsing anywhere.
Incognito mode
The extension works in Incognito windows only if you allow it in Chrome's extension settings. It can then also save and sync tabs from Incognito windows. These sessions are stored like all others, in the extension's local storage, and remain there after the Incognito window is closed until you delete them.
Backups
You create backups yourself with the Export command. The file is saved where you choose, and you are responsible for keeping it safe. An encrypted backup is protected by a passphrase that the extension never stores. Without it, nobody can restore the backup, including the developer.
Extension permissions
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
Tabs and windows (tabs) | Reading tab URLs and titles; saving, restoring and syncing sessions; switching between tabs and windows. |
Storage (storage, unlimitedStorage) | Storing sessions, previews and settings in the extension's local storage. Unlimited storage is needed for tab previews. |
Idle state (idle) | Detecting whether you are at your computer, so time when you are not using the browser is not counted in statistics. The extension only reads the active/idle/locked state. |
Alarms (alarms) | Saving measured time to statistics once a minute. |
Site access (<all_urls>) | Capturing a preview of the visible part of a tab. The extension does not inject scripts into pages; from a page's content it stores only a small screenshot of its visible part. |
How long data is kept and how to delete it
Data stays in your Chrome until you delete it. You can delete individual sessions and tabs directly in the extension. Usage statistics are kept for at most 90 days and older records are deleted automatically; you can clear them at any time in the Statistics section of the Tab Manager. When you uninstall the extension, Chrome also removes its local storage with all sessions, previews, statistics and settings.
This website
The website sessionview.hamanovi.cz uses no cookies and no analytics tools. The web server keeps standard technical access logs (IP address, time, requested page and browser type), used only to keep the site running and secure.
The "Support development" link leads to the Buy Me a Coffee website. Donations are voluntary and do not unlock anything in the extension. Details you enter when donating (such as your name, email and message) are processed by Buy Me a Coffee under its own privacy policy, and the developer sees them only to the extent that service makes them available.
Changes to this policy
If the way data is handled changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
